In February 2025, Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah, and Guidance issued directives concerning activities in mosques during the upcoming month of Ramadan. The key points of these directives include:
1. Prohibition of Broadcasting Prayers: The ministry has banned the live broadcasting or transmission of prayers, including Tarawih (special nightly prayers during Ramadan), on all media platforms.
2. Restrictions on Camera Usage: Installing cameras in mosques is permitted; however, using them to film imams and worshippers during prayers is prohibited.
3. Ban on Collecting Financial Donations: The collection of financial donations for projects like providing iftar (meals to break the fast) is prohibited. If iftar meals are organized, they should be held in designated areas within the mosque’s courtyards and under the responsibility of the imam and muezzin (the person who calls to prayer).
