According to early islamic reports, the second caliph of Islam, father-in-law of Muhammad — sought to marry Umm Kulthum, the ten-year-old granddaughter of Muhammad. The report claims that Umar touched her inappropriately, and she rebuked him, saying: ‘You are a bad old man! If you weren’t the Caliph, I would break your nose.’ If this report is true — what does this say about Islam’s second ruler, about morality, power, and the very foundations of the religion?
